Talon Lindquist and Ila Hughes led the Kodiak Kingfishers swim team to a sixth-place finish at the Oregon/Region XII Senior Championships that concluded March 9 in Gresham, Ore.

Hughes, a Kodiak High School junior, won four of the five events she competed in, while Lindquist, a Kodiak Middle School eighth-grader, captured two titles.

Hughes won the 50-yard freestyle (23.92 seconds), the 100 free (51.24), the 200 free (2:22.70) and the 200 butterfly (2:06.11). She also placed second in the 100 butterfly (56.35) and was the top female point-getter for the meet.

Lindquist took first in the 200 individual medley (1:57.13) and the 200 backstroke (1:53.38). He also recorded a second in the 200 freestyle (1:53.38) and a third in the 100 breaststroke (53.16).

He set state records for the 13-and 14-year-old division in the 200 IM, the 200 freestyle and the 200 backstroke. His 200 backstroke time is 11th quickest in the nation in his age group.

Dyton Schauff recorded a second-place in the 100 backstroke (53.66), a fifth in the 50 freestyle (22.5) and a sixth in the 200 backstroke (2:00.82).

Blake James posted a sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.71).

Dan Lambert, swimming in his first out-of-state meet made the B finals in the 500 freestyle and the 200 butterfly.

The boys 200 and 400 medley and 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams all set club records.
