Second-half woes kept the Kodiak boys from cracking the win column at the Alaska Prep Shootout. 

The Bears were outscored by a combined 20 points in the second half of their final two games — a 44-34 loss to Palmer and a 61-41 defeat to Chugiak. 

Kodiak (2-4) went 0-3 in the tournament and finished in eighth place. 

In Friday’s game, the Bears and Moose were tied at 27 through three quarters. Palmer outscored Kodiak 17-7 in the final stanza. 

Senior Sam Galindo — Kodiak’s only player on the all-tournament team — paced the Bears with 15 points and four rebounds. Shaun Case added six points, while Frankie Marcelo had five assists and four rebounds. 

Dae Osiensky dropped all five of Palmer’s  3-pointers for a game-high 21 points. Lavar Marshall was a perfect 7 for 7 from the free-throw line and added 13 points.   

Chugiak — a Cook Inlet Conference school — led 33-21 at halftime and 43-30 at the end of the third. The Mustangs outscored the bears 18-11 in the final stanza. 

Chugiak shot 46% from the field and was 6 of 13 from behind the arc, while Kodiak shot 27% and was 8 for 34 on 3-pointers. 

Ian Rocheleau hit three triples for a team-high nine points, while Shawn Case had eight points. Edgee Ocampo grabbed seven of his team’s 21 rebounds. 

Owen Leis and Zach Cole each scored a game-high 18 points for Chugiak. 

Dimond (6-0) remained undefeated by defeating West Valley 55-36 in the championship game. Grace Christian took third with a  41-36 victory over Wasilla. 

Kodiak returns to the hardwood Thursday at Kenai. The Bears then begin Northern Lights Conference play at Soldotna Friday and Saturday.
