Trevor Dunbar came close to recording his fourth mile under four minutes Saturday at the DC Road Runners Track Championships in Washington, D.C.

Dunbar placed second in the elite field of 12 runners with a time of 4 minutes, 01.30 seconds. Willy Fink won with a meet record time of 3:58.84.

Dunbar, the only Alaska runner to dip under the 4-minute mile barrier, went in with the fastest seed time, having turned a mile time of 3:55.54 in 2017.

Dunbar, who trains in Boston with the Boston Athletic Association, now sets his focus for the USA Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, on July 25. Dunbar, a 2009 graduate of Kodiak High School and All-American at the University of Oregon, will be competing in the 10-kilometer run.
