Note: Kodiak's last regional title was in 1985, not in 1983 as reported earlier.

A dominant scoring spree paved the way for Kodiak’s first regional title in more than two decades.

Down by eight points, the Bears closed the first half on a 17-2 run and never looked back, earning a 64-43 victory over Colony in the Northern Lights Conference championship game Saturday afternoon at Colony High School.

Kodiak’s last region title was in 1985.

This year’s team is now only three games away from capturing the program’s second state title and a perfect season.

Kodiak enters the 4A state tournament, which begins on March 20 in Anchorage, with a 24-0 record.

Kodiak had to come from behind Saturday, just like it did in Friday’s 55-47 semifinal win over Wasilla.

Third-seeded Colony led 17-9 after the first quarter and was up 21-13 midway through the second.

Kodiak exploded after that.

Sparked by back-to-back 3-pointers from Jerica Nelson and Adriane Horn, Kodiak rattled off the next 17 points to take control of the game.

Hannah Wandersee scored 10 of her game-high 25 points during the second quarter, while Horn ended with four 3-pointers for 13 points.  Carissa Cannon added 10 points, while Jerica Nelson had eight assists and seven points.

Kodiak opened the third with seven straight points that gave the Bears a 37-23 cushion. From the middle of the second to the middle of the third, Kodiak outscored Colony 24-2.

Kodiak led by as many as 23 points in the fourth quarter.
