The senior center will hold a spring luncheon today at noon. Come and enjoy the festive spring decorations and great menu that day. The menu includes baked ham, potatoes, spring vegetables, and a special dessert. You can wear your Easter bonnet to the vent and show it off. Call KATS 486-8308 if you need a ride.
We will hold our first BBQ of the season Wednesday, April 30 at noon. This is always a favorite luncheon with hot dogs (the big juicy kind), hamburgers, potato salad, and baked beans. Come enjoy the cookout with friends.
We are all about food and Monday, May 5. We will celebrate Cinco de Mayo with beef tostadas, rice and beans, and guacamole. This will be our international lunch for the month.
The Mother’s Day luncheon will be Friday, May 9 and another great menu will be served. Be sure to mark your calendars for all of these wonderful lunches.
Each may we have local senior artists display their works in the lounge area. And this year is no different. We will host the talented artists with a reception Friday, May 2 from 5-7. This event will also be part of the Kodiak Art Council’s First Friday Art walk. Come see the wonderful artworks and meet the artists at the center that evening.
Older Americans Month
Though some people might not like to think of themselves as seniors, the Older Americans Act from 1964 established that definition as being age 60. That seems pretty young in today’s age, but being a senior is something to be proud of with making each day count. This year’s Older Americans Month theme is “Safe Today. Healthy Tomorrow.” And at the center you can follow that theme pretty easily with nutritious meals, exercise, Breakfast for Brains, computer classes, a book club, and the list goes on and on. As part of that theme, Lieutenant Klumpner form the Kodiak Police Department will be doing a Lunch and Learn on Being Safe Wednesday, May 14, at noon. Think of the center as not only a resource for information and referrals (on how to be safe), but also as a wonderful meeting place to socialize with friends and make new acquaintances.
Check out the center’s May newsletter for lots more activities during the Older American month celebration.
