After weeks of waiting, Kodiak’s date with international rapper and promoter Pitbull is here.

On Sunday, workers erected a clamshell stage in the grass outside Nemetz Gazebo, site of today’s festivities, which begin at 11 a.m.

Organizers expect a big crowd and advise anyone who plans to attend the meet and greet to carpool.

According to the National Weather Service, there is an 80 percent chance of rain, and temperatures will be in the low 50s.

Walmart spokeswoman Veronica Marshall said that if Pitbull’s flight cannot arrive due to weather, the event will be rescheduled to a later date.

Today’s schedule calls for a meet and greet from 11:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by a live stage event from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Kodiak Mayor Pat Branson is expected to present Pitbull with a key to the city, and there will be performances by local dancers, singers and drummers.

The festivities move to Walmart at 1 p.m., where Pitbull is expected to meet with Walmart employees and Kodiak residents until 1:45 p.m.

Walmart is a prime sponsor of Pitbull’s visit, which came about when Internet voters took over a Walmart-organized contest to send the artist to the Walmart store with the most Facebook “likes.”
