EARTH DAY TRIATHLON

The Earth Day Triathlon will take place Saturday, April 26, as follows:

• 9:20 a.m. Early start for participants who think they need extra time to complete the course.

• 9:30 a.m. Pre-race briefing in swimming pool foyer. Course routes will be described, safety concerns addressed, questions answered.

• 10 a.m. The first heat begins in the swimming pool; this heat will be for individual men and women. 12 swimmers will be in the pool at one time — two swimmers per lane.

• 10:30 a.m. Second heat for individual men and women and first heat for teams begins.

• 11 a.m. Second heat for teams will be held.

(NOTE: Heat arrangement could change depending upon enrollment.)

• 2 p.m. Everyone should have crossed bike finish.

• 3 p.m. Awards presentation at the Teen Center.

All divisions begin at the swimming pool and end at Woody Way Field. The swim is 22 laps (1-K). The run is 3.1 miles (5-K), and goes from the pool to East Elementary and back. The bike is 12.4 miles (20-K) from the pool to Pillar Creek and back to the finish at Woody Way Field.

Divisions are as follows:

Open mixed team, Youth team (all members under 18 years old), Individual Men’s under 19, 20-29, 30-39, over 40, Individual Women’s under 19, 20-29, 30-39, over 40.

Register at the 58 Degrees North. Fee is $10 for youth and $15 for adults. All swimmers need their own lap counter.

Registration deadline is 5 p.m. Thursday, April 24 No registrations will be taken the day of the event.

EVENTS

Morning Powerball in the High School gym on Sundays from 7 to 9 a.m.; Wednesday and Friday from 6 to 7:30 a.m. Smokey Stover is in charge. Powerball is for adult and high school players who have played organized ball.

Evening Powerball in the Middle School gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7–9 p.m. Powerball is for adult and high school players who have played organized ball.

Women’s Powerball in the Middle School gym on Mondays and Wednesday from 7–9 p.m. Powerball is for adult and high school players who have played organized ball.

Open Tennis will be held at North Star on Sundays from 1–7 p.m. This is for players wishing to enhance their play in a pickup style of competition. 1–4 p.m. is for students/ Intermediate players and 4–7 p.m. will be for adult/ advanced players. Steve Johnston is in charge.

Indoor Soccer is held in the North Star gym on Thursdays and Sundays from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Seth Minyard is in charge.

Youth Open Gym: Sunday: 4–8 p.m. at Middle School



TEEN CENTER

General Hours: Monday through Thursday noon to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday noon to 9 p.m., and Sunday 2 to 4 p.m.

Infant/Toddler-Play Group: meets every Monday and Friday from 10 a.m. to noon. This is to provide a socialization opportunity for infants and toddlers (from one- month to four-year-olds) as well as enhancing their motor skills thru play time with other children. Bring your own balls and riding toys.

Private Parties: The Teen Center is also available for private celebrations in four hour blocks on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The four hours includes set up, event and clean up. Fees are $100 per four hour block for groups up to 50 participants. Reservations for groups from 50 to 100 participants must have director approval, and are twice the fee. A cleaning deposit of $100 is required and scheduling is on a first come first serve basis. All rules of the Teen Center apply.

Friday Art At the Teen Center

The Teen Center is hosting arts and craft times with different sponsoring organizations from 4-6 p.m.

• Art w/ Ms. Liz from Main Elementary Have fun with Ms. Liz doing free arts and Crafts from 4-5 p.m.

• Friday after-school program is held at 4 p.m. This program is for sixth- to ninth-graders and is hosted by KANA.

• The Teen Center is looking for local artist to put an artistic touch on the walls. Anyone interested in painting their masterpiece on the walls for everyone to enjoy, please contact 486-8669

Open Dance Studio: Saturday from 1-2 p.m.

Early Riser Racquetball: Saturday mornings at the Teen Center from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 6:30 to 8 a.m. For information call Craig Johnson at 486-4826.

Youth Spring Soccer: starts Monday, March 31 with team selections at Baranof Field. For more information, please see the flyer on the City website or call the Teen Center at 486-8665
