Shaun Pestrikoff, 35, was charged with first-degree assault and fourth-degree misconduct involving a weapon after firing a handgun at a fellow Old Harbor resident that had just arrived at his house.
Alaska State Trooper records show the victim, a 25-year-old male, had gone over to the house to visit a friend. The victim was then fired upon with a .357 handgun when Pestrikoff opened the door to the home. Troopers indicate Pestrikoff is believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the incident. The records also show the shooting was not reported until the following day.
The bullet struck the top of victim’s head, grazing him and causing a minor injury. The victim did not seek medical treatment for the wound and did not immediately contact police regarding the incident. When troopers did learn of the shooting, the victim initially declined to pursue charges against Pestrikoff.
However, the victim later changed his mind and contacted troopers about pressing charges and the troopers responded to Old Harbor to start a formal investigation. Pestrikoff was then arrested on Tuesday, Feb, 18 and flown to Kodiak where he remains in the Kodiak Jail on the aforementioned charges. His bail was set at $5,000 with a third party custodian.
A preliminary hearing for Pestrikoff has been set for Monday, March 10 at 2:30 p.m. in Superior Court at the Kodiak Courthouse.
