Olivia Bennett’s run-scoring, go-ahead double in the fourth and final inning gave Kodiak a much-needed 6-5 victory over Bartlett in Anchorage.
“It was a really nice shot to center,” Kodiak coach Sam Catt said. “The girls played great. It was really cold. They were frozen. We had a few errors, but they played awesome.”
The game was tied at 5-5 after the 90-minute time limit expired at the end of the third inning.
Dannika Catt was placed at second to begin the extra inning and scored on Bennett’s double.
Kodiak pitcher Kaia Yatsik retired Bartlett in order in the bottom of the fourth as the Bears improved to 2-3.
Yatsik struck out four in four innings.
Kodiak scored three in the first on a two-run single by Carole Lampl and a Catt RBI double.
Bartlett took the lead with four runs in its half of the first.
Kodiak tied it in the second and both teams scored solo runs in the third.
Richelle Ferris added a double, while Celeste Chichenoff had an RBI.
Today, Kodiak plays at Houston at 7:45 p.m.
On Saturday, the Bears finish the road trip at Wasilla with a game starting at 12:15 p.m.
