Nine players — Collin Powers, Kerry Powers, Melvin Javier, Eddy Burris, Hunter McKee, Ruben Amodo, Jingo Olaes, Darren Sene and Leo Sega — won awards at the four-day football camp held at Wasilla High School.
“I believe it is the most Kodiak has ever received,” coach Jim Schnick said. “They did really well and a lot of college coaches were really impressed.”
The camp, in its 21st year, features college coaches from around the country. Kodiak not only got instruction from the coaches, but scrimmaged against other Alaska teams at the camp.
“We did OK. We worked on a lot of base stuff,” said Schnick, in his first year as Kodiak’s head coach.
“I had a fabulous time, personally. It helped me grow as a coach.”
Kodiak begins practice for the 2012 season on the final day of July.
