Kodiak’s Lindsay Knight won a pair of titles at the Southside Winter Classic Powerlifting Championships Saturday at Southside Strength and Fitness in Anchorage.

Knight, 60, won the men’s masters overall division and the men’s masters 165-pound class.

“Most of the guys retire by the time they get my age. They are smarter than I am,” Knight said Monday. “I am more of a bodybuilder and I don’t lift as much weight as the young guys, but I look good doing it.”

Knight squated 275 pounds, benched 187 pounds and deadlifted 313.5 pounds for a three-lift total of 775.5.

This was Knight’s first powerlifting meet since 2009. He decided to attend Saturday’s event two weeks ago when the KMXT bench press competition was shifted from Dec. 3 to Jan. 21.

“I do the lifts each week, all year long,” Knight said. “But normally you do kind of gear up for it.

“I’m pleased that I went and attended. I did learn, but I would of liked to have my lifts be better.”

Knight said the hardest part is handling the five-hour meet.

“That is a long time to stay psyched up, pumped up and warm,” he said. “To me that is always a challenge. I’m used to working quicker between lifts.”

Overall, Knight simply liked competing in the event.

“It is a lot of fun,” he said. “I enjoy the camaraderie. Everybody there is your friend, even if you just met them ... and at the same time it is strenuous, hard and tiring.”
