KHS trio to compete on national stage

A trio of Kodiak High School graduates are running in national cross country championship races in the next few days.

Dylan Anthony, a freshman for University of Alaska Anchorage, is competing in the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in Spokane, Wash., on Saturday.

The men’s eight-kilometer race begins at 11 a.m. A live video feed can be found at www.ncaa.com.

Anthony graduated from KHS in 2010 and redshirted last season at Chico State University.

He was the 2009 Alaska high school cross country state champion.

Also on Saturday, Concordia University’s (Oregon) Cory Pena, a senior, is running in the NAIA Cross Country National Championships in Vancouver, Wash.The men’s race begins at 9:30 a.m.

Pena placed 122nd in last year’s NAIA Championships in 26 minutes, 46 seconds.

University of Portland’s Trevor Dunbar is running in the NCAA Division I National Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., on Monday.

The race begins at 8:08 a.m. A live video feed can be found at www.ncaa.com.

Dunbar, a junior, is making his third appearance at the national race. Last year, he placed 25th to earn All-American status.

Portland is ranked eighth in the country.

Dunbar, a 2009 KHS grad, won seven combined high school state titles between cross country and track.
