Kodiak qualified 19 athletes to the 4A State Track and Field Championships that begin Friday at Lathrop High School in Fairbanks.

Headlining the group is Cole Christiansen, the only Kodiak runner in four events —the 800, 1,600, 3,200 and the 3,200 relay.

Jordan Fogle and Nathan Sterns advanced in three events.

Levi Thomet enters with the the top seed in the 3,200, while the boys 3,200 relay team is also seeded first.

The relay squad consists of Christiansen, Thomet, Fogle and Levi Fried.

Eight Kodiak girls qualified for state, with Shannon Armstrong (100 hurdles) and Marley Wilkins (400) seeded eighth in their events.

Port Lions’ Raissa Boskofsky, the defending 1/2/3A state champion in the 300 hurdles and the high jump, is seeded first in those events.

Boskofsky ran a state qualifying hurdles time of 47.4 at last week’s Region III Championship in the Dome in Anchorage.

The time, better than her state-winning pace of a year ago, was produced in a race with no other runners.

“As she began her race with an impressive acceleration out of the blocks, the audience increasingly realized they were witnessing a special runner by herself displaying her talents, work ethic and championship credentials,” Port Lions coach Matt Neagley wrote in an email.

Port Lions is also sending sophomore Emma Nelson to state in the 100 and 200.
