The Coast Guard suspended the search for a missing mariner in the Bering Sea Wednesday evening.

A man fell overboard from the 87-foot fishing vessel Seeker 10 miles northwest of Unimak Island in the Bering Sea Wednesday morning.

A Kodiak-based MH-60 Jayhawk crew forward deployed to Cold Bay, the Cutter Alex Haley and good Samaritan crews searched 64 square miles and 10 hours, but could not find the mariner, according to a Coast Guard press release.

“Our thoughts and prayer are with the family and friends of the missing man,” Chief Petty Officer Chris Cole said. “The decision to end a search is one of the most difficult choices to make as a search and rescue controller.”

The Seeker is based in Newport, Ore.
