• District 17 Command Center watchstanders received a report from Dutch Harbor Clinic personnel of an 83-year-old woman suffering from a broken leg Sunday. An Air Station Kodiak MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew forward deployed in Cold Bay took the patient from Dutch Harbor back to Cold Bay. She was then safely transported to commercial medevac flight services for further care.

• Coast Guard Sector Juneau watchstanders were alerted that the 95-foot commercial tug Nathan E. Stewart suffered an engine failure after being inundated by heavy seas leaving the vessel with reduced power Sunday. It was slowly drifting to the northwest. The tug was pushing a barge carrying a reported 2.2 million gallons of diesel fuel and 1,000 gallons of jet fuel from Valdez to Skagway. The commercial tug Le Cheval Rouge and crew arrived on scene with the Stewart early Monday morning and the 225-foot buoy tender Maple and crew arrived later that same morning. The Le Cheval Rouge crew successfully took the Stewart into tow 25 miles southwest of Cape Fairweather Monday. They towed the Nathan to Skagway and arrived safely Wednesday. The Coast Guard Cutter Maple and crew provided a safety escort during the most of the tow.

Dec. 20

An Air Station Sitka Jayhawk helicopter crew medevaced an injured man from Port Alexander to Sitka Tuesday. Coast Guard District 17 watchstanders were notified that a 38-year-old man reportedly suffered back injuries after falling from scaffolding. The rescue crew safely delivered the man to Sitka emergency medical personnel for further treatment at the Sitka Community Hospital.
