Accounting Technician Cashiers Office & Utility Billing SALARY: Grade 16: $16.64 - $22.94/ hour

The employee occupying the position of this class is responsible for general office and accounting tasks, including secretarial responsibilities. Performs the duties of a cashier for the municipality including receiving cash, checks, or credit cards in payment for water bills, sales taxes, harbormaster services, miscellaneous accounts, and other payments; writes receipts; balances cash on hand with receipts, enters proper account numbers on bills or statements. This position serves as accounts receivable clerk with responsibility over the areas of utilities, as well as posting and accounts receivable for all City departments. This class is distinguished from lower-level classes by the difficulty of the tasks, the advanced skills and knowledge required by these tasks, and the exercise of some independent judgment. Work is performed semi-independently once each major element of the work is understood. Work is usually reviewed upon completion for adherence to policies and procedures and for the quality of service provided to the Finance Department or the public.
The applicant must be a high school graduate or equivalent (GED) with three years progressively responsible accounting and office experience. Should have the ability to read, post and make various mathematical computations quickly and accurately and must be able to operate a personal computer.
Office environment requiring frequent public contact.
