Group creates four-wheeler race
Alaska is known for its extreme races. There is the Iditarod, the Iron Dog and Mount Marathon. Now you can add another one to the list — the Ididarock. A group of Kodiak residents has created the Ididarock, an approximately 45-mile four-wheeler team challenge race. The race was promoted on Facebook several weeks ago and has already gained traction, attracting riders from as far as Homer on the Kenai Peninsula. “Th...

Riders enjoy new skate ramps at Baranof Park
It had been half a year since Elrik Hanson had picked up a skateboard. He got reacquainted with his board in a big way Monday afternoon. Hanson and a few of his buddies spent three hours testing the new ramps at Baranof Park. After several successful tricks, and some not so successful, they walked away satisfied. “I’m glad there is a mini-ramp section, because I can’t really mess with the big stuff,” Hanson said. ...

Teeing Off: Catching the March Madness fever
I don’t consider myself a connoisseur of college hoops. But when it comes to the opening weekend of March Madness, I am all in. It is the best four days in sports. Heartbreak. Upsets. Buzzer-beaters. Cinderellas. The NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament has it all. And, I can’t get enough. Gizmo and I spent Friday and most of Saturday — it was so nice we had to get out of the apartment to have a catch — on ...

Teeing Off: Gizmo dances into March Madness
I never thought the day would come when Gizmo would turn down a doggie treat. But after three intense days of picking March Madness games, Gizmo is drunk on biscuits. Who knew the pooch could only fit so many bacons into his 10-pound frame? Certainly not me — I’ve seen how he inhales his dinner, and it isn’t pretty. Being induced into a food coma was well worth it, as Gizmo joined the madness that is the NCAA Divi...
