Line item needed to restore crab
To the Editor: I got many endorsements of my recent letter on Kodiak's besotted advisor selection and the demise of the King Crab Capital of the World. Emails rolled in and the phone rang constantly. The letter made a national website for, as one commenter noted, "sleeping with the enemy." The Board of Fisheries recently approved my proposal to wisely shut down hard on bottom trawling in all state waters around Ko...

HB77 deserves to die in committee
There is currently a very bad piece of legislation sleeping in the Rules Committee of our Alaska State Senate. This is House Bill 77 (Water Rights and DNR Permitting Legislation) referred to as the "Silence Alaskans Act" by opponents. The authors of this bill (Parnell, Sullivan and Staff) seek to streamline permitting for state projects by awarding unprecedented permitting powers to the commissioner of the Dept of...

The jo...

At this j...
