The former Kodiak standout and current Nike professional finished eighth in a field of 20 elite runners with a time of 34 minutes, 49 seconds, which earned him a $750 payday. Sam Chelanga edged out Tyler Pennel for the win with a time of 34:35. The top finishers in the road race were only separated by four seconds....

Hannah Wandersee continued the solid start to her collegiate career with a monster game on Friday. The University of Alaska Anchorage redshirt freshman posted her first career double-double with game-high 22 points and 11 rebounds in a 101-26 drubbing of New Hope Christian at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage. Wandersee, a 2014 Kodiak High School graduate, shot 10 of 14 from the field and added three blocks ...

TEEING OFF: What to do when baseball season ends
When baseball ends I often think about Hall of Famer Rogers Hornsby’s quote: “People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.” I prefer to turn my full attention to the Seahawks, and of course Gizmo and Pepper Jack. But before I dive into the state of the Hawks, I must settle the trending Internet question: Is a hot dog a sandwich? A ...

Teeing Off: Baseball is a game of firsts
Halloween came early at the Clarkston apartment. While everybody was sleeping early Tuesday morning, Gizmo trick-or-treated the garbage can. I didn’t see how generous the garbage can was, but his mom did. I got a full report, via text message, when I woke up hours after she discovered the mess. Turns out the garbage can was handing out spaghetti squash seeds, and Gizmo loved it. I caught him going back for seconds...

Teeing Off: Half of the World Series is set
The “Amazin” Mets are back in the World Series. The last time New York played in the big show was in 2000. Benny Agbayani was on that team. Why do I bring that up? Agbayani played at Hawaii Pacific University, and I was a freshman at HPU in 2000. I don’t remember the university making a big deal about it, but I don’t remember many things from college. The Mets swept the Chicago Cubs in the National League Champion...

TEEING OFF: Soaking up the playoffs
The 2015 Major League Baseball playoffs have been thoroughly entertaining. So much so that getting work done has been nearly impossible. I got absolutely nothing accomplished during a 53-minute window Wednesday afternoon. Game 5 of the American League Divisional Series between Toronto and Texas was the best non-Seattle baseball game I have seen. Of course, the best game that I have ever seen goes to the 1995 ALDS ...
