To the Editor: The cattle have been on Chirikof Island since 1888! We fought the battle over Chirikof Island cattle with the Alaska Maritime Refuge in 2002. A petition was signed by hundreds of people in Kodiak, Resolution No. 18-2002 was passed by the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly, and then-governor Frank Murkowski requested the removal of the cattle be stopped.
