USFWS boat likely unsalvagable
ANCHORAGE (AP) — A federal research vessel that sank while docked in St. Herman Harbor likely will not be repaired because of the high expense, a spokesman for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said Monday. The 63-foot Arlluk, used by two Alaska Peninsula national wildlife refuges, sank last week while tied up in St. Herman’s Harbor. The vessel was floated after less than 24 hours and towed to a boat yard, but sa...

Factor in the spate of cold, wet weather and opportunities to shoot are have been scarce this winter. You can go to the KISA indoor r...

Garden Gate: Harvey's farmer speech the highlight of the Super Bowl
I confess. I didn’t watch Superbowl XLVII. But after learning about one of the ads, I wish I’d tuned in for those two minutes. No more, thank you. The ad featured a segment of a speech made at the 1978 Future Farmers of America convention by Paul Harvey, the late, great radio broadcaster. The ad’s sponsor, Chrysler (maker of Ram trucks and the reason for the commercial), incorporated the speech as the soundtrack w...

Stephens and Stutes only assembly members who make any sense
To the Editor: I listened to the borough assembly meeting last night and became annoyed. The only assembly members who spoke any sense were Mr. Stephens and Mrs. Stutes. I feel those two consider the future more so and the effect of the decisions the assembly makes now. I, too, would have voted against the care center which will only have 22 beds. At this point there are so many unknowns but five assembly member...
