Ice holds up Coast Guard’s summer Arctic operation
The Coast Guard’s schedule to station search and rescue ships in the Arctic Ocean is slipping on a thick layer of ice.
Last winter’s frigid conditions turned the Beaufort and Chukchi seas into an ocean of white, and the ice is lingering, forcing the Coast Guard to delay its plans to deploy ships to the Arctic Ocean this summer.
