KODIAK — I would like to remind everyone of what the Republican party used to stand for. I found that the Republican platform of 1956 stated in part:

“We shall ever build anew, that our children and their children, without distinction because of race, creed or color, may know the blessings of our free land.

“We believe that basic to governmental integrity are unimpeachable ethical standards and irreproachable personal conduct by all people in government. We shall continue our insistence on honesty as an indispensable requirement of public service. We shall continue to root out corruption whenever and wherever it appears.”

What has happened to the Party of Lincoln? By my way of thinking, the values of the Republican party of 1956 somehow evolved and not in a good way.  Nowadays, the Republican party’s actions concerning ethical standards appear to be no longer necessary, honesty, fact check the current presidents record, rooting out corruption, apparently only up to the opposing party! Self policing, not necessary. Currently it appears to me that today’s Republican party’s prime objective is to obstruct justice, evidenced by what is being played out in our government’s proceedings today regarding political appointee Attorney General William Barr’s obstructionist actions.

My grandfather Joe Murdock was a delegate to the 1956 Republican Convention and the party values he abided by truly made America great then, but in my opinion those values are now only a fond memory.

Should the Republican party ever choose to return to the stated values of the 1956 Republican party’s platform, I probably could become a Republican, just like my Grandpa Joe Murdock.
