I want to encourage commercial fishermen to file for your permits early this year as there may be delays in processing.

As many of you are already aware, the Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission has been suffering from dysfunction at the management level.

Recently, two of the key personnel in charge of processing licenses resigned. Further resignations are expected.

I am working with the governor’s office to address the commission’s immediate staffing needs so that we can minimize any impact on fishermen.

Moreover, we are working on a fix to the leadership and organizational problems within the commission so that it can assist fishermen efficiently moving forward.

Please contact me at (907) 465-3271 or email rep.louise.stutes@akleg.gov for any questions or additional information.
