The Under Sixty Cod Harvesters extends a sincere thank you to Sen. Sullivan, Sen. Murkowski and Rep. Young for advocating on behalf of commercial fishing businesses, families and communities in the latest COVID relief legislation. USCH represents fishermen harvesting Pacific cod, sablefish, halibut, salmon and herring in the North Pacific. Our vessels work nearly year-round from Alaska’s coastal communities.

The legislation includes a number of benefits to the seafood industry, such as an additional $300 million in direct relief and including seafood within $1.5 billion of USDA food aid purchases. It also makes an important update to regulations for PPP applications to incorporate 1099 contractor earnings as employee wages, even after a business’ 1502 Report has been filed with the Small Business Administration. This potentially impacts hundreds, maybe thousands, of operators and crew in Alaska’s fishing industry.

Alongside many others in the industry, we appreciate the opportunity to have worked with Alaska’s congressional offices on this important effort. It is having an immediate positive impact in the state, and will help keep our fisheries resilient in 2021. Thank you for continuing to work with and on behalf of Alaska’s fishing and seafood businesses.
