Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined what is happening in my America today. As in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” the crazies  are running the asylum. My grandfather Joe was a delegate to the Republican convention that chose Eisenhower to be candidate for the presidency and I am sure that he would be aghast as to what has happened to our democracy, especially to his beloved Republican Party.

Grandpa Joe was the epitome of what the Republican Party represented in his time and he believed that respect, decency and truthfulness was the basis of our existence, and the cornerstone of his politics. My point being is that respect, decency and truthfulness are no longer necessary to be elected to public office. What has become the norm is fear mongering, hateful vitriol, racist ranting and all things once considered un-American are now acceptable. Shame on us, America, for letting our country fall from grace!

I believe we can make America great again, not like Trump’s demonizing, but by all of us using the power the designers of our Constitution deeded to us. Use your only power, vote and vote wisely, research the actions of the candidates and don't be fooled by false rhetoric. Help choose our leaders wisely and America can once again achieve greatness by incorporating the simple principles of respect, decency and truthfulness.
