Fairbanks man pleads guilty to 2014 murder and arson

A 22-year-old Fairbanks man will spend 85 years in jail for killing two women and burning down an apartment building in 2014, according to the terms of a plea agreement reached in Fairbanks Superior Court today.

Conar Lee Groppel pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, second-degree murder and first-degree arson for a composite sentence of 155 years with 70 years suspended. Groppel will not be eligible for parole until his 50th birthday on May 26, 2046. He will serve 10 years of probation upon release.
