Kodiak City Council hashes out tsunami siren solution

Posted: Thursday, May 2, 2019 9:02 am

KODIAK — A tsunami siren site survey conducted in February concluded that all 21 of the island’s sirens should be replaced and that several should be relocated. At an April 23 work session, the Kodiak City Council discussed the survey, as well as ways to fund siren replacement. The Kodiak Island Borough Assembly will be discussing the issue at a regular meeting this month.

Security system firms Federal Signal and Alster Communications came to Kodiak to conduct the site survey on February 26 and 27, looking at all 12 sirens maintained by the City of Kodiak, as well as the nine sirens maintained by the Kodiak Island Borough.
