KODIAK — The Kodiak Daily Mirror is pleased to announce that Jack Barnwell joined the team as a reporter starting Monday.
“We’re excited to have Jack as part of the team. We are confident his wealth of knowledge and experience as a reporter will benefit our community,” KDM Publisher Sara Schaefer said.
A California transplant, Barnwell arrives from Ridgecrest, in the Mojave Desert area, where he worked at The Daily Independent. He studied journalism at San Jose State University before working at various newspapers over the last six years.
“I’m looking forward to this new opportunity in Kodiak,” Barnwell said. “So far, this place has been great, the people friendly and the sights amazing.”
Barnwell covered local government, business and community interests in Ridgecrest during his first tenure as a reporter at the Daily Independent. He then moved on to the Tehachapi News, also in California, followed by a stint at the Tahoe Daily Tribune, in South Lake Tahoe. He then returned to Ridgecrest as the editor of Rocketeer II, a weekly publication serving Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, in December 2015. He returned to the Daily Independent the next year, first serving as its editor and then as a reporter covering water issues, breaking news and education.
Barnwell said he looks forward to all that Kodiak has to offer, from the people and their stories to the diverse landscape. And, maybe acquire a solid chili recipe he can cook in his spare time.
“There’s so much to explore, so many opportunities to take advantage of as a journalist,” Barnwell said.
Barnwell can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 512-2624.
