Kodiak farm sees biggest statewide kelp harvest to date

A Kodiak-based mariculture farm in its second year of operation saw Alaska’s biggest commercial kelp harvest to date this spring. At Kodiak Island Sustainable Seaweed, a kelp farm owned and managed by Nicholas Mangini, between 42,000-44,000 lbs of kelp was harvested in May.

“All I had to do was beat myself last year,” said Mangini. “And it’s definitely one of the top three or so in the nation this year.”
