KODIAK— Isaac Stone Simonelli took up the reins as the editor at the Kodiak Daily Mirror Monday, announced Daily Mirror Publisher Sara Schaefer.
Simonelli was most recently a copy editor for the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner after spending five years working in the news industry in Phuket, Thailand. He wrapped up his time with the Phuket Gazette after more than three years as the Managing Editor/Editor-in-Chief. In his position at the Gazette, he oversaw eight editors and six reporters as they developed in-depth reports about the issues that mattered most to the community.
“I’m exceptionally excited to be part of the Kodiak Daily Mirror family,” Simonelli said. “It’s impossible to underestimate the importance of a local paper to a community. And, I must admit, after being in the Interior for nearly a year, it feels good to be back near the ocean.”
As editor, Simonelli will lead and edit news coverage for the Daily Mirror, as well as develop the newspaper’s social media sites. He looks forward to better understanding the needs of the Kodiak community and how the paper can fulfill them.
