KODIAK — The total 2019/2020 weathervane scallop fishery quota for Kodiak waters will remain the same as last year. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has announced a total Guideline Harvest Level of 85,000 pounds of shucked meat for all of Kodiak’s districts. However, according to both fishermen and ADF&G Area Management Biologist Nat Nichols, there are two large groups of young scallops that are approaching harvestable size, which indicates a possible increase in quotas in the coming years.

A news release from ADF&G states that the GHLs for the 2019/2020 season will be as follows: 15,000 pounds of shucked meat in the Northeast District; 20,000 pounds in the Shelikof District; 35,000 pounds in the Southwest District; 15,000 pounds in the Southeast District.
