KODIAK — An Oregon dance troupe is slated to grace the stage with its program in Kodiak at 7 p.m. Thursday night as it opens the Kodiak Arts Council’s 2018-2019 Performing Arts Series at Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium.
BodyVox’s “Urban Meadows” program has been described as “dances of sweeping beauty, intensity and irreverent humor,” according to an Arts Council news release.
“Urban Meadows” promises a production from a company known for its “its ingenuity, creativity, and unique approach to dance that assimilates all possibilities for movement, endows it with breathtaking physicality, enriches it with striking imagery, and embellishes it with humor, wit and whimsy.”
The production will include nine dancers as part of the group touring Alaska. Thursday’s performance also serves as “Urban Meadows” opening act for the eight-community Alaska tour, according to the release.
Tickets are on sale through the Kodiak Arts Council office at the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium, 722 Mill Bay Road. General admission is $25, with discounts for youth, senior citizens and Arts Council members. Tickets will also be available at the box office an hour before showtime.
In addition to its Thursday night performance, BodyVox is scheduled to host a free workshop for local dancers ages 12 and older at 7 p.m. tonight at Next Step Dance Kodiak, 1220 E. Rezanof Drive.
