KODIAK — In the wake of hundreds of dead sand lance turning up on White Sands beach over the weekend, locals are being encouraged to report further sightings because the die-off might be linked to paralytic shellfish poisoning.

Locals are encouraged to contact Bruce Wright, a senior scientist working with the Knik Tribe and the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association, Inc., a regional Native corp, with any reports of additional die offs of sand lance, also known as needle fish or sand eels.
