KODIAK — A local man faces multiple rape charges after being indicted by a grand jury on May 10. In total, Jherome Ladera, 19, faces 19 felony charges.
Ladera was indicted on 11 charges of sexual assault in the first degree, all currently unclassified felonies. Additionally, the defendant was indicted on three charges of attempted sexual assault in the first degree, which are unclassified felonies or class A felonies; three charges of sexual assault in the second degree, all class B felonies; one charge of assault in the second degree, a class B felony; and one count of assault in the third degree, a class C felony.
The defendant is accused of engaging in various sexual activities with a number of different individuals without their consent. The defendant is also accused of attempting to choke one of the individuals.
The incidents that led to the charges all occurred between November 2016 and August 2017, during which period the accused was between 16 and 17 years old. The victims at the time of the incidents range from 15-16 years old.
The defendant was given a bail of $50,000; a trial is scheduled for the week of August 14.
