KODIAK — A local man who was arrested on several drug charges began to overdose in Kodiak Jail last month after allegedly attempting to smuggle heroin into the facility using his rectum.

Todd Staley, 45, who was charged with several drug-related felonies after law enforcers allegedly found over 150 grams of heroin and over 40 grams of methamphetamine at his residence, was transferred to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center because the 3.5 grams of heroin he tried to bring into the jail wasn’t securely wrapped and was being absorbed into his bowels, according to court documents.
