KODIAK — Kodiak’s first ever commercial rocket launch occurred Friday afternoon at the Pacific Spaceport Complex.

California-based Astra Space, Inc. was licensed for a suborbital flight test of its “Rocket 1” from Launch Pad 2 at the spaceport.

Under dense fog that blocked visibility, the rocket could be heard firing just after 2:00 p.m.

A person close to the company said that the test flight, the company’s first, was a success.

They said the company anticipates filing paperwork for a second launch, also from Kodiak, later this year.
