At approximately midnight, Alaska State Troopers discovered a disabled vehicle in the middle of Chiniak Highway Mile 8. Troopers spoke with the female driver, who identified herself as “Heather Lynn.” An investigation revealed the driver as 32-year-old resident Katherine Werbe, who had an active felony warrant for $2,500 on stemming from original charges of driving under the influence, misconduct involving a controlled substance in the third degree and three counts of misconduct involving weapons in the second degree. Werbe was arrested without incident. The continued investigation revealed that the vehicle Werbe operated had different vehicle registration tabs on the rear license plate.
Alaska State Troopers seized Werbe’s vehicle for a drug investigation, was granted a search warrant and found user amounts of suspected meth, heroin, LSD and suboxone.
The suspect was also on conditions of release from a prior case that prohibited her from being in possession of firearms or controlled substances. Also located in the vehicle was a one shotgun. Werbe remanded to Kodiak Jail and held on a $5,000 bail.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., Kodiak Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop of a Toyota sedan carrying the driver and one passenger for equipment failure. A subsequent investigation showed 27-year-old driver Mariah Gilmore didn’t have a valid driver’s license or insurance on the vehicle. Gilmore was cited and issued a misdemeanor citation for no vehicle insurance.
At approximately 12:32 p.m., Alaska State Troopers and Alaska Wildlife Troopers responded to a suspicious fire on Kalsin Bay Beach.
