• Theft of an unattended backpack from a beach on Long Island, near Woody Island, was reported to Alaska State Troopers on Aug. 1.
According to the complainant, the backpack contained personal items and a .45 caliber Taurus Judge, 5-shot revolver having serial number KM159519.
The complainant also reported a small skiff was seen leaving the area of where the backpack and gun had been left. The skiff was described as metal/aluminum type with two males aboard. However, no further details were available.

• Alaska State Troopers and Alaska Wildlife Troopers responded to the area of Boy Scout Lake/Jewel Beach trail due to a report of a brown bear that placed a hiker in distress on Aug. 6 at approximately 1:30 p.m.
Troopers arrived, located and escorted the hiker to safety, along with his dog. Both were unharmed. Upon receiving further details from the hiker, troopers determined the bear’s presence and behavior were normal. Troopers were unable to locate the bear, which had left the area.
•Eric Williamson, 46, of Warrenton, Oregon, was issued a summons by Alaska Wildlife Troopers on Aug. 3 for failing to salvage all the edible meat from a Sitka black-tailed deer he had harvested on the Kodiak road system earlier that day.
Additionally, Williamson was issued a second summons for failing to purchase and attach a non-resident locking tag, and a bailable citation for failing to validate his harvest ticket. Bail was set at $170.
The meat and antlers were seized. The summons were issued with an arraignment date of Aug. 30 in Kodiak District Court.
