Kodiak quilters seeking veterans for Quilt of Valor nominations

Posted: Friday, April 5, 2019 8:43 am

Between 2015-2018, roughly three dozen Quilts of Valor were produced locally by members of the Kodiak Bear Paw Quilters Guild and presented to veterans on the Emerald Isle. Following the departure of a key KBPQG member from the island in 2018, the practice was temporarily put on hold. But now, local quilters want to resurrect local Quilt of Valor presentations and are looking to the community to nominate local veterans.

“214,000 quilts have been given to veterans (nationwide) and that number continues to grow,” said Sandy Peotter, a KBPQG member who has been involved in creating Quilts of Valor locally. “This is one way to honor them.”
