Aaron Bruce, son of Filomeno and Elisa Bruce, is a highly motivated, respectful seventh-grade student at Kodiak Middle School. He enjoys social studies in particular and appreciates learning about other countries. He actively encourages his classmates to do their best in the classroom and he goes out of his way to be kind to other students and teachers. Aaron frequently volunteers in class and displays a positive attitude toward his school and community. Aaron also plays basketball and video games in his spare time.

Aleena Bravo, a sixth-grader at Kodiak Middle School, always sets out to do her best and is a wonderful role model for her peers. She is very thorough, works well with others in the class, and asks good questions. In math, Aleena works hard on her own time to be successful, for example, coming in at lunch time to understand topics more in depth. Aleena’s ambitious work ethic and positive attitude help her succeed in and out of school. Volleyball and art are two hobbies she enjoys. Some moments she is proud of include winning a KEA drawing contest, earning a Blubber Buck and getting to eat lunch with the principal, and being picked to be in her school’s Leadership Program.

grader Justin Martinez is the son of Jillian and Armando Marinez and has a younger sibling Dominic. Justin’s humor, caring and great attitude are steadfast pillars of his character. Justin’s great attitude and intellectual curiosity allows him to experience his education as “fun.” Justin’s favorite class in school is his STEAM class, where he has been described as a role model. He really appreciates the opportunity to be creating things, which corresponds with his dream of becoming a video game developer in the future. He enjoys the small town feel and beauty of Kodiak and reads and plays hard in his spare time.

Seventh-grader Rose Anne Boado is a natural leader and a task-oriented worker. For example, she kept her literature circle-reading group focused and made certain that everyone was involved. For Silver Ribbon Week, she encouraged and actively worked with her peers to complete a poster focusing on putting a stop to cyber-bullying. As a model student in math class, she diligently completes assignments while at the same time looking for ways to help those who are in need of assistance. In addition, she is respectful toward both adults and fellow students, has a positive attitude and a sense of humor.

Eighth-grader Kateleen Sofranes, daughter of Daisy and Deomides Sofranes, is a kind and courteous student who strives to do her best work in all her classes. This year, Kateleen participated with the KMS basketball and volleyball programs. When she’s not playing with her KMS teammates, she can still be found playing these sports with friends on their free time, improving their skills. In her future, she would like to attend college and partner her academics with participation in these sports also at the collegiate level.

grader Wyatt Horn is a hardworking, trustworthy, respectfuland caring student. His work ethic, positive attitude, willingness to help others, leadership skills, and energy contribute to the positive atmosphere at KMS. He is currently participating in e-cybermission, a science competition in which students work in teams to solve a problem using the scientific method or engineering process. His KMS activities include track, cross-country and band. Outside of school, Wyatt enjoys playing hockey, biking, fishing and hunting. Wyatt is considering pursuing a career in aviation and becoming a pilot.
