Behind a runner-up finish from Keith Osowski, the Kodiak boys opened the cross country season with a second-place finish at the Colony Invitational Saturday in the Mat-Su Valley. 

The girls put two in the top 10 and finished fourth with 80 points. 

Osowski, a senior and Kodiak’s top returner, covered the 5-kilometer course in 16 minutes, 50 seconds, just a second behind winner Hunter Kratz of Seward. 

Jack Hannah finished sixth in 17:47, Anthony Maghupoy 15th in 18:49, Gabe Nummer 20th in 19:00, Seth Burnett 28th in 19:27, Michael Bersin 30th in 19:28 and Camrin Yturbe 35th in 19:47. 

Kodiak tallied 55 points, 14 behind champion Wasilla. 

Senior Arielle Himelbloom led the girls' attack with an eighth-place finish in 21:18. HoneyRose Macatuno was ninth in 21:18, Maddie Christiansen 19th in 22:28, Carly Glover 22nd in 23:00 and Katie Parnell 33rd in 25:16.45. 

Colony topped the girls' field with 38 points. 

Kodiak continues its weeklong stay on the Mainland, racing at the Nikiski Class Races today and the Tsalteshi Invitational in Soldotna on Saturday.
