It will be a blue and gold weekend for Kodiak High School’s sports teams.
On Friday, the baseball and track and field squads will compete in annual blue and gold scrimmages.
The baseball game will begin at 5 p.m. at Baranof Field, while the track meet gets started at 2:30 p.m. with discus and long jump at Joe Floyd Track and Field. The field events begin at 4 p.m.
The track team will conduct the shot put and high jump portion of the meet today. Shot will start at 3:45 p.m. at the track, while high jump will be held in the Kodiak Middle School gym at 4:15 p.m.
At 7 p.m. on Saturday, the KHS boys’ soccer team will play a team comprised of community members at Joe Floyd Track and Field.
This is the first season soccer will be a sanctioned sport at the high school. The team was a club the last two seasons and was not eligible for postseason play.
Baseball, track and soccer will all open the season officially next week.
Baseball hosts South Anchorage, Dimond and Chugiak in the first Rex Edward Matautia Invitational Tournament that begins Wednesday and concludes Saturday at Baranof Field.
Boys and girls soccer entertains Nikiski Friday and Saturday in the first high school matches held on the island. Friday’s matches will count in the Northern Lights Conference standings.
The track and field team will begin its season at the Big C Relays at the Dome in Anchorage.
