Teens shine at National 4‑H Conference in D.C.

Five young people from Kodiak’s 4‑H Club traveled to Washington D.C. in early April for the 4-H National Conference. As well as giving presentations on issues of national significance, such as energy policies and dating violence, the teenagers also had an opportunity to meet the Alaskan delegation, Senators Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski and Congressman Don Young (all R-Alaska).

The five teens who attended the April 6-11 conference were Walter Olazabal, Max Pyles, Sarah Teuber, Erica Kostelecky and Jessica VonGunten. The group was chaperoned by two volunteer 4‑H team leaders, Lisa Kostelecky and Barbara Waskowiak. Kostelecky, who’s been a local 4‑H team leader for the past five years, explained that the organization is about more than just looking after small animals.
