Leads in the recent case of a man found beaten in Kodiak have led police to a suspect, according to Kodiak Police Chief Ronda Wallace.

Kodiak resident Steven West, 53, was found by a passer-by in the 400 block of Marine Way late Saturday, Feb. 22. West’s injuries were severe enough he had to be transported to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage.

Wallace said the investigation is ongoing and the name of the suspect cannot be released at this time since police are still following up with other information to build the case. She added that West is awake and recovering after having surgery.

"We do have a suspect, but we are not putting that information out there at this time because we are still following other investigative leads,” Wallace said. “We are still working this based on other information we have attained.”

Wallace added that if the public has any further information that could be useful in the case, she urges them to contact the Kodiak Police Department or Crimestoppers, if potential tipsters prefer to remain anonymous.
