Five members of the Kodiak High School dance team spent an eventful two weeks in Washington state attending summer camp.

And they returned to the island with a ticket to Nationals in February in Orlando, Florida.

The group qualified for the big dance by earning a first-place finish for their home routine performed at the Universal Dance Association Dance Camp in Centralia, Washington.

Sarah Quiliza, Troy Valdez and Kim Recustodio were selected to the All-Star team, which was voted on by instructors.

“Those who show exceptional talent, sportsmanship and dedication are selected to be a part of the All-Star team,” coach Amy Belisle wrote in an email.

The team, also comprised of Marcus Vizocho and Ariel Magnuson, earned the Leadership Award, a full-out ribbon for working hard each day and a superior first-place trophy for their final evaluations.

All five picked up first-place blue ribbons.
