The public is encouraged to attend the first of three strategic education planning meetings today from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Kodiak High School Choral Pod.

The meeting will look at an overview of planning and budget, and focus on community input.

Needs assessment data will be reviewed with the public as well as current goals the district is working on.

Kodiak Island Borough School District superintendent Stewart McDonald wants to find out what the community is discussing at their kitchen tables about education in Kodiak.

Aside from the three meetings planned, McDonald will also meet with smaller groups.

“We’ll be going out every day and trying to meet with groups of people throughout the community to ask those questions to get feedback from people, and we’re going to document that and post it on the web and get the strategic planning discussion going,” he said.

Follow-up meetings are planned for Oct. 26 and 28.
