More than 200 Kodiak animal lovers turned out to the Kodiak Elks Lodge on Saturday to raise money for the Kodiak Humane Society.

Humane Society director Karen Yashin said the annual Hair-Ball is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the organization that runs the Kodiak Animal Shelter. Last year's event raised about $9,000, and Yashin predicts this year's event will have raised that much once receipts are totaled.

Former "American Idol" contestant Jackie Wilson and Kodiak's own "40 Miles of Road" provided music as guests enjoyed food provided by the Kodiak High School culinary arts program. The Elks Lodge volunteered its hall, and Yashin said the event could not have been put on without the assistance of the Elks.
