A shooting accident took place at 12:50 a.m. on Wednesday at Uganik Bay near the Village Islands.

Alaska State Troopers (AST) in Kodiak were told by the United States Coast Guard in Juneau that unknown people reported via radio that a man had been shot in the chest or neck, according to AST.

Troopers flew to the site via Coast Guard helicopter and assisted in evacuating the victim, a 53-year-old male of the Village Islands area.

Investigation revealed that he and Ronald Dunlap, 70, also of the Village Islands, were consuming alcohol inside a residence when a physical altercation ensued which resulted in one of them receiving a gunshot wound.

The 53-year-old was transported to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center where he was stabilized and subsequently transported to the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage.

Dunlap was arrested on an unrelated arrest warrant for drunk on premises. He was transported to the Kodiak Police Department Jail with a set bail of $250. The investigation is ongoing.
