KODIAK — Following on the success of “Coast Guard Alaska,” the Weather Channel and Al Roker Entertainment have announced a new TV series called “Coast Guard Florida.”

According to a release from the Weather Channel, the program will follow the men and women of the 7th Coast Guard District as they patrol ports and waterways, interdicting drugs and rescuing boaters in the Everglades, Florida Keys and near Miami.

The show will premiere in October and feature 13 hour-long episodes.

“The new series will have a very different look and feel (from “Coast Guard Alaska”) — not only in terms of landscape and weather conditions, but also in the missions assigned to the crews,” The Weather Channel said. “Additionally, while the first season of Coast Guard Alaska focused on the activities of one station (Kodiak), Coast Guard Florida will expand to cover the many activities and missions of three large bases throughout southern Florida.”
